MY FIRST POST

Today is the first post of my new blog called Plea.

For those new to my story, I have just completed journaling for fourteen months at the blog, christianlovestories.blopspot.com,  created by my wife Kristy, who passed July 21, 2008 from a GBM brain tumor. We wrote together for many years, and now my blog writing journey officially begins as a solo.

I have not written or posted in almost a week. It has been a withdrawal process filled with some tears and hurt as transition continues in my life. Some have told me that these last days without me entering a post felt like they were going through some kind of withdrawal as reading Kristy's blog was a part of their daily routine.

Hopefully, following this blog will become a part of your new routine.

What will I write? Glad you cared to ask.

I will write about happenings in my life and the passions of my heart. This will be a personal plea to the higher good in life.

Now some are expecting romance and lots of it. I will write romance, but this new blog is going to be romance plus an appeal to the higher good in all aspects of life. It is going to include thoughts on success and failure and what works in life and what doesn't work. My thoughts will focused but will often sound like ramblings too.

It is time for me to laugh and laugh hard. I have cried buckets of tears these last months. There is a place and time for tears but there is a time to laugh too.

I will laugh. You need to laugh too.

Now this blog needs lots of work and development. Do you like my picture? I took this picture of myself on top of the Acosta Bridge in downtown Jacksonville. This picture will change and even maybe the name of this blog will change too. I haven't had time to spend on it lately as I needed a break.

I am working on a book to tell the story of Kristy's journey to heaven and how God brought Wanda into my life. Pray for God's direction in this project. I believe it is an incredible story of God's amazing faithfulness and love to help us through the very tough, hard places in life.

God is good.

I heard that from someone special to me.

  1. Good Morning my older brother, yes God is good, really good. I know that especially from Saturday morning how really good God is us. Yes, we have missed reading from your blog and excited about this new venture. I am going to be very honest. Being a younger sis, I will have to say you need a different picture. Get Wanda to take one for you. I am sure you will get a much better smile if she does that for you!!
    Love, Tricia
PS. I did enjoy the horseback ride with you and Wanda. Next time you ride the pony!

  4. Congratulations on your new blog! Blessings on your writing project. Yours and Kristy's is a story to be told.

Please don't take down the Kristy blog. It will be a beacon for years to come, a place where others can learn about love and romance and marriage, as well as pain, and heartbreak, and healing.

  8. Pastor Milton, I rejoice with you on this new blog. I am sure the Lord will bless and use it to touch lives for His Kingdom. With all the glitz and glamour this world offers with all its trappings, we need a steadfast voice for the common good. There is nothing but emptiness of substance and hollow promises made by the pundits of this world being spewed out on our lives that we need the fullness of the riches of Gods' grace to fill us with His power and truth today. Thanks fo sharing your heart in truh with us.

  9. I have been following Kristy's blog for some months now. I just went through this same trial with my very best friend. She was also a Pastor's wife. I can read between the lines when reading your blog and know exactly what you experienced that words will never be able to tell. I was with my friend every day from day one of diagnosis until the very end as a caregiver and a friend. It was the hardest thing I have ever been through but the most rewarding and I felt it was such an honor that God placed me there for her. I use to tell her that I wish I could be the friend to her that she had been to me. I never realized I would have this opportunity. It isn't so much her absence that is missed, but her presence. It was everywhere. Every store we would shop in, every activity at the church, shared phone calls at the end of the day...... the list goes on and on. I never realized you could miss someone so much.
I learned so much about myself during this time. And I also believe, the best way to help yourself, is by helping others. I am comtemplating enrolling in some volunteer work, to help others that are going through this same crisis.

In the year ahead, I pray, that we can make the progress that you and your family have made. I look forward to the day, when I can laugh with a memory (of which I have many) and not cry at the mere mention of her name.

  10. Pastor Dykes:

You wouldn't remember me, but my husband, Jim and I, catered a District Council Meeting at Clearwater First Assembly some 10+ years ago.

We now attend Calvary Chapel, St. Petersburg, but still have close friends at First Assembly.

I followed Kristy's blog, but never commented--now I wish I had. However, included her on our prayer list every week--some 500 people gather on Wednesday night before service begins.

Her blog and your subsequent sharing has been such a blessing to so many--especially those who needed encouragement and a fresh faith in God.

May the Lord bless your abundantly as you begin this new season of your life.

    In Him,
    Jim's Patty

  14. Hello Dave,

I could not find a contact link so I came here instead. I recently lost my wife to cancer about two months ago and as a result have reignited my interest in writing and blogging and sharing our story. You may visit my website if you like at http://www.cognitivecompost.com/ or I am also on Facebook. I appreciate the love you have for your wife. My wife's name is Fawn.
